Destination Zambia
Zambia is a landlocked country located between the southern rim of the Zaire Basin and the Zambezi River. Zambia has land borders with Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique and Zimbabwe to the southeast, Botswana and Namibia to the south, Angola on the west and Zaire to the northwest. Zambia boasts some of the most remote and romantic national parks and wildlife reserves in Africa - unspoilt wilderness areas reminiscent of the classic African safari ethos of bygone years. The frequent occurrence of rapids and falls prevents through navigation of the Zambezi. Zambia has some of the greatest natural scenery on the continent - a gently undulating plateau of forests, savannah and marshland - studded with lakes. Plateau land in the northeastern and eastern regions is broken by the low-lying Luangwa River, and in the western half by the Kafue River. Both rivers are tributaries of the upper Zambezi, the major waterway of the area. Zambia was once one of the earth's great wildlife paradises, where huge herds of game flourished on grassy floodplains and in trackless woodlands. Rivers teemed with hippos and crocodiles, but unrestricted poaching had exacted a devastating toll. However, a new awareness of the economic potential of the country's wildlife has gripped the Zambian psyche, with a revitalized tourism sector and new lodges and camps in areas where once poachers roamed and slaughtered. Whether you want to gaze in awe at Victoria Falls, ride the rapids of the mighty Zambezi, watch wildlife without the crowds, or sip sundowners at sunset, Zambia is the place to go!
